I have a deep interest in the breathtaking moments within the magnificent eco-systems and formations of nature. Simultaneously, I am very intrigued by the concept of human-created nature, especially gardens. The enclosed gardens surrounded by fences or walls, as seen in paintings from the 15th century such as hortus conclusus, are depicted as conceptual representations of paradise. And at the center of these gardens, fountains are often depicted as various metaphors. In the present day of 2023, we surely have more options than in the era of hortus conclusus. People know that in a creative and rich garden where various forms of life thrive, a healthy ecosystem is born. I would like to deconstruct the garden’s system, and observe, and contemplate the world that surrounds us. Enjoy the fantastic fountain gardens created by four artists.
This exhibition was curated for Knew as New, an independent publishing house based in Tokyo.
It was unveiled at the Tokyo Art Book Fair, held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo 2023.
