Fountain Garden

by Ron Finley, Felix Kultau, Trevor Rounseville, Su Wu

November 23 - 26, 2023

I have a deep interest in the breathtaking moments within the magnificent eco-systems and formations of nature. Simultaneously, I am very intrigued by the concept of human-created nature, especially gardens. The enclosed gardens surrounded by fences or walls, as seen in paintings from the 15th century such as hortus conclusus, are depicted as conceptual representations of paradise. And at the center of these gardens, fountains are often depicted as various metaphors. In the present day of 2023, we surely have more options than in the era of hortus conclusus. People know that in a creative and rich garden where various forms of life thrive, a healthy ecosystem is born. I would like to deconstruct the garden’s system, and observe, and contemplate the world that surrounds us. Enjoy the fantastic fountain gardens created by four artists.

Su Wu
Based in LA, Su Wu is an L.A.-born artist of Chinese and Taiwanese heritage who spent her youth in Japan and the U.S. "I experience inner dialogue as images of faces and objects. I am fascinated by both organic and inanimate objects that can be archived in reference to a subjective culture. I depict objects that act as symbols through classical and universal mediums, exploring and assembling images to create a fabricated context. Still and sometimes ab-sent imagery echoes my experience as a perceived ‘foreigner’ in every place I have lived. Through detached observation I explore the sensation of displacement and revocationof cultural belonging." - Su Wu

This exhibition was curated for Knew as New, an independent publishing house based in Tokyo.
